Official Stewards of San Juan Response to Secretary Zinke's Review Process
Monday, May 29, 2017
~~ Bear Essentials ~ May 29, 2017 ~~
A Big Thank You to all who wrote letters as part of the DOI 14-day
review. Your thoughtful, fact-filled
responses will hopefully carry more weight than the thousands of form letters
from people who have never been to Bears Ears territory. On June 10 Secretary Zinke is supposed to have
recommendations ready for the President regarding National Monuments designated
the past 21 years. Pray daily.

out Nevada, too. They have been helping us. Recommend that Gold Butte National
Monument be reduced in size, just to the old ghost town of Gold Butte, so that
grazing, mining, fishing, hunting and exploring the desert can continue to be
enjoyed by anyone who wants to buy a 4WD vehicle or ATV to get there. Sharon
Holmes wrote: “This Monument was a vindictive attack backed by former Senator
Harry Reid, on the Cliven Bundy family, as retribution for them standing up to
the BLM in 2004. . . Cattle have roamed this desert wilderness with the Bundy
brand, and the family has purchased and own the water rights for their
livestock for over 140 years. There are no historic Native American sites
or construction here; no burials, just an old ghost town where people once made
a hard rock living. The annual cost for maintaining a limited presence at the
Gold Butte townsite is a lot less than managing over 300,000 acres of desert.” When you write regarding Gold Butte upload

Thank you, to all you Stewards of San Juan for helping Jim
Stiles last week. Over $1500 was raised
for his “legal defense via the http://moab84532.wixsite.com/moabtransparency.
Jim said, I don’t know all who donated, but I am
overwhelmed...this will be a great help.”
n We also appreciate the donation of Rescind Banners and Rescind
Bears Ears Shirts for the Rally May 6. It made both the Rally and Zinke’s
in-person visit even more awesome!! (Go to Beyond Bears Ears Blog to see
photos.)
